Izakayas in Japan

Blog, Foodie Destinations0 comments

Welcome to the Izakaya experience! Izakaya were traditionally down to earth places where men came and drank sake and beer after work in Japan. Now this is defiantly complemented by a growing population of independent women and students, and many izakaya today cater to a more diverse clientele by offering various types alcohol and many kinds of traditional food and not so traditional such as slightly tweaked Italian, Korean …. yea you name it….. from sashimi to fried chicken and beer to shochu.. they have it all.

The chain Izakaya became popular in the 1980s. They are often big places and offer an extensive selection of food and drink, allowing them to cater to large, loud and rowdy parties or just people who want to shake off their week and have a good time. Beware!!! the food is actually very good at some of the chain restaurants and the presentation and service are quite good!!! Prices are very reasonable as well.
